After being the voice of the Cavs from 1971-2011, Joe Tait has lost his battle with kidney disease and liver cancer.
Cavs fans all over have grown up listening to Tait's voice for years. Whether it be commentary, pre-game talks, or post-game interviews and discussions, you'd be quick to recognize when it was Tait's voice.
After a recent talk with Tait, Terry Pluto was able to get deep down into Tait's life. He spoke about his life, his health, death, and even his cat, Penelope.
“I’m not afraid to die,” he told Pluto. “I guess I’m an agnostic. I believe there is a powerful force, a creator."
“I do wonder what happens after you die. If anything does. I’m curious to find out. I do know I’ve had a good life. Lots of people have been great to me.”
Tait had such a positive outlook on life. He has been able to accomplish so much in his 83 years of life. He was inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame media wing in 2010. He was there when the Cavs struggled, and then when they made it to the Finals in 2007. Tait was also there during those rough few years that most Cavs fans refused to remember: When Lebron James left for a sunny, three-year vacation in Miami.
Cavs fans all across the country are mourning the loss of this amazing man, may he rest in peace.
